I had access to all the financial and other metrics that would typically interest a person in a role like that. However, my interest was also in the people and how they contributed to the greater performance of the business. We brought Humanity in with a specific mandate to assist in determining the temperature of the workforce or the employee base within some of the subsidiary businesses. We used Clarity Wave as a tool, and we were able to quite quickly determine how the people felt. At the end of it all I think it’s incredibly important to have that understanding - how your people feel on a daily basis, how they arrive at work, how they are engaged with their colleagues, with management, with other stakeholders, with suppliers, customers etc.

I think it all comes back to how your people feel, when they arrive and when they leave. We were able to use the tool to determine this and to build on areas of strength, work on areas of weakness, and over a period of time in one specific subsidiary, over a period of 18-24 months we were able to make a massive difference to the level of engagement and how the people felt. It really is the corner stone of it all. The financial and other metrics typically will be an outcome of a sold, well-engaged, happy workforce.

Despite having read the stats, we know that happy employees contribute better to the bottom line.
